Grilled-Salmon-Vegetable-Salad

Eating at restaurants can be quite challenging when you’re working to clean up your diet. Just because you’re trying to eat healthy doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the good things in life like dining out with friends. All it takes is a little structure and you can enjoy a delicious healthy meal at one of your favorite restaurants!

A simple rule that I find works for me is to replace all starchy carbs with vegetables. For example, If I were to order a grilled sirloin steak served with a side of mashed potatoes, I would substitute the mashed potatoes with grilled vegetables. It may be an extra charge but just that small change can make a big difference!

Even for appetizers you can make more health cautious choices. For example ask for grilled calamari instead of the traditional deep fried calamari. or tell the server to hold the bread that’s usually given complimentary. The worst thing you can drink soda! So stick to water, if you find water a little boring with your meal add a couple of slices of lemons to it.

Remember, avoid anything with the words breaded, battered or fried as a description for a dish and stick to grilled, boiled and baked. With these simple steps you can cut out unnecessary calories while still enjoying a night out with the friends. Just because you want to eat healthy doesn’t mean you have to suffer!
