With a few easy substitutions you can still enjoy your favorite meals while losing weight! This article I will show you seven effective replacements that could cut out hundreds of unnecessary calories daily.

1. Quinoa instead of Rice or Pasta
White rice and pasta are considered to be bad simple carbs that don’t provide much nutritional value. Quinoa on the other hand is an amazing ancient grain that is actually a complete protein, meaning it delivers all of the nine essential amino acids. Quinoa’s protein content per 100 calories is even higher than brown rice, potatoes, barley and millet! Not only is this mystery grain healthy for you, it’s also unbelievably delicious! 2. Fruit Sorbet instead of Ice Cream
Ice cream is loaded with added sugar, emulsifiers and preservatives, if that hasn’t convinced you  that it’s bad just read the nutritional value chart on the ice cream box! Just because ice cream is  bad for you doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy something similar and healthy! Blend your favorite  frozen fruits like mango, strawberries, bananas, blueberries, pineapple or anything else with a bit  of water and enjoy!

3. Nut or Seed Milks Instead of Cow Milk
Unfortunately most of the cow milk today is contaminated with hormones, pesticides and other chemicals that could potentially be harmful for humans. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a nice cup of nut or seed milk as a healthier replacement. Personally I prefer to have almond milk over cow milk and with this simple Almond Milk Recipe you can make your own at home.

4. Shaved Zucchini instead of Pasta
Having pasta for dinner? Try replacing the pasta noodles with shavings of zucchini (shave the zucchini into strands with a vegetable peeler) and add your favorite tomato sauce. This will reduce your calorie intake dramatically and still result with you being full and satisfied! Don’t be shy to add other shaved vegetables to the mix too!

5. Coconut Water instead of Gatorade
I believe Gatorade is an important re-hydration tool for those who sweat a lot after an intense training. If you’re an athlete then having a Gatorade might not be such a bad idea but there are other healthier options. Recently coconut water gained huge popularity in the fitness world and for good reason. Coconut water is packed with electrolytes like Gatorade minus the additives. You will be surprised at how refreshing fresh coconut water is after training! 6. Kale Chips instead of Potato chips
I don’t need to remind you how bad potato chips are but they are bad, very bad! But you may appreciate this simple replacement that is even better than potato chips…Kale Chips! You will have to make these chips yourself but the process is beyond easy. All you will need to do is cut the kale leaves in to small finger sized pieces. Drizzle olive oil or coconut oil on the leaves and sprinkle sea salt as well. Bake in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25-30 minutes. You will be amazed at how yummy these chips really are, and no guilt :)

7. Cauliflower instead of Potatoes
Mashed potatoes are not the best option, especially at dinner time. Try replacing your mashed potatoes with cooked mashed cauliflower and you will cut calories by the hundreds! I can’t tell you how many people I tricked with my mashed cauliflower they were convinced it was potatoes!

Hopefully with these simple replacements you will be able to cut down on unnecessary carbs. This may be that little extra you need to fit in your favorite pair of jeans!
