Antioxidants are essential nutrients that help your body and immune system function at its best. From preventing wrinkles to killing off cancerous cells antioxidants have proved to be very important. I will show you 6 examples of fruits and vegetables loaded with nutrients and antioxidants that you should be eating!
This green recently became popular in the western world, and for good reason. Kale contains large amounts of vitamin K (1 cup of kale = about 12 x the recommended daily value of K). Vitamin K can help fight off heart disease and osteoporosis. Kale is also known for its high fibre content, which can lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
This yummy vegetable gets it’s beautiful purple skin colour from Nasunin, a nutrient that fights the spread of cancerous cells in the body. Nasunin is also known for its anti-ageing properties and recent research suggest it slows the development of Alzheimer’s disease!
This juicy fruit/vegetable contains Lycopene, an antioxidant that can combat free radicals (molecules or ions that can damage healthy cells and suppress your immune system). It also has been found to protect against some cancers!
4. Blackberries (YUM)
This delicious fruit is packed with Rutin, an antioxidant that can block the enzymes linked to blood clots, lowering the risk for blood clots and other heart related issues
5. Fresh Basil
This incredible spice contains high levels of eugenol, an antioxidant that has been found to prevent cervical cancer!
6. My favourite! Brussels-Sprouts
These amazing green balls can help block enzymes that cause tumor growth and recent studies show that these vegetables can be used to help reduce inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis.
When I say anti-ageing I don’t mean that you will look twenty your whole life, that’s impossible. What I mean is that you may not look twenty all your life but you definitely can feel it!
